What is Almost? Well, Almost is a map game in which almost everything that could have happened in something place did happen. Perhaps someone who was important died, or someone who died OTL didn't die. Different outcomes of battles, a storm here and there, someone built a colony here instead of there.
If the game begins around 1825-1850 then why is China fractured? They were still under the rule of Qing Dynasty OTL and China had Manchukuo, Tibet, Mongolia, and Tannu Tuva at the time. -Kogasa

I just attacked Vancouver with a massive army,and got repelled despite having many factors that aren't recorded by the algorithm on my side, like a navy firing salvos at the enemy army, surprise, a night attack and Hideously outnumbering them. It doesn't make sense.

Inuits in Greenland ask for greater autonomy from Britannica.
Republic of Unified Melanesian Islands: The capital city is declared Port Moresby. Begins cutting down swaths of forest to enable the nation to create a better infrastructure, as many cities have no roads connecting to them whatsoever. The first naval base is built in Noumea, with a government plan to build the first three ships by the end of the year. Plans to set up several government operated ferry routes between islands, but due to the nation's tight budget it is planned for now to only be between the New Britain peninsula and Papua. IFTB: Hearing of the war in the Americas, IFTB declares war on Vancouver. They might dislike people that rebel against them, but they HATE people who are or used to be french. Mexico joins the war on the side of Oregon, wanting to gain land, and it manages to occupy some of southern Atarashi Hokkaido. The CSA also joins, and manages to take some of southern USA, which then forms an alliance with Karaïvikí̱s who manages to take southern Florida. Liberia and Nigeria form an alliance, and invade and cut Ghana in half. Blows are traded in the American War, and due to the mass destruction a famine hits. In the American Fortress Network, construction begins on 5 Ironclads of massive proportions, They're slow, but won't be moving far anyways.

Though this increases public unrest, already strained by having to fight multiple wars, the king ignores it, choosing instead to attempt a swift victory against Mauretania and then include the motherland in the tax breaks for the defeated nation.

They are also given the long ranged smoothbore 12-pounder Napolean and Griffen cannons (as are the new ironclads). The naval ships are given new variants of the Paixhans gun and the Carronade gun. The new infantry uniform looks a bit like the uniform used by the Dragoon Guards in America (although they can be easily recognised between the two, even in the heat of battle). However, instead of sky blue trousers like the Dragoons, they have white trousers, their coats are dark blue rather than black, their caps were straighter and more rigid, and the white sashes in a cross across the necks of every soldier were tighter and more orderly. They are now equipped with 1850. model infantry swords for close combat fighting, the above mentioned Lebel rifles and, for officers and those who can afford them, personally chosen pistols. Knucklledusters and 5' inch knives are also given to every soldier, ready for hand-to-hand compat. Currently, like the rest of Europe, soldiers have to pay for their kit. UEA For now there are no leading nations. However, the Members who are on the council will be the most powerful. The council will be made up of 7 European nations, who must be in a reletively good position on the rankings. Superpowers are most likely to be elected for this as we do not wish them to turn on us. However, there are only 3 superpowers in Europe out of 7 places so the majority will not be superpowers. Although there are only 7 council nations, every country will have a representive and may vote on the constituition.

France: The French government propose sending instructors to Brazil in return for an alliance. Private companies begin trading with the IFTB although, like Brittania, the government run companies refuse to drop to such standards. Meanwhile, the army begins a new recruitment programme and the Expeditionary force recruitment closes although it is still recruiting. It is just no longer as well advertised or well spread because all of the government rescourses have turned to the new programme. The 1st EF now numbers 30,000 troops and the 2nd numbers 10,000. The 3rd will be used as a peacekeeper force, acting as police in France's foreign territory and as essential negotiators and soldiers that will be used neutrally to stop wars. The 3rd numbers 5,000 men. This brings the size of the army up to a strength of 380,000 active troops. The navy begins work on three huge ironclads to ALMOST match the size of the IFTB's Behomoths. They will be called the Invader class, to match the five ironclad destroyers in the Protector class. Work also begins on 5 new Defender class destroyers. These will essentially be slightly larger, heavier armoured versions of the Protector class, except for the fact they have a much higher fire power and can exceed the Protector class's top speed by 6.8 knots.

Melanesia: Annexes most of Polynesia, but keeps much of the far-eastern parts on the otherside of the Pacific autonomous and protectorates. Continues increase stability, economy, infrastructure and military. Manages to get the first few gattling guns into production. Preperations are made for next years elections, the running candidates being Fascists, Syndicalists, Republicans, and Technocrats.

East Polynesia: Begins a ferry service across islands, but due to the shear scale it is barely 20% finished by the end of the year.
France:
Troops begin to ready for war as the new recruitment programme starts. Every soldier is now equipped with a sword, a Lebel rifle and the new uniform. None of the old artillery is left in service; it has all been replaced by the new long range cannons. All of the ships in the Grand French Imperial Navy (GFIN) are overhauled and equipped with new guns and marines. The sails, ropes and anchor are replaced, as are the crews personal weapons. The deck planking in all of the wooden ships is ripped up and replaced by new boards. The wooden hulls are half taken apart and given new iron frames to support the wood. These ships are also given reinforced iron at the bows to prevent ramming and the gunpowder stores are encased in metal to prevent even direct hits on them from blowing up the ships. All ships commissioned before 1840 are decommissioned and replaced by new metal reinforced wooden ships, called the Vengeance class. Many of the ships are fitted with heavy iron and timber rams for melee battles. Huge caches of chain shot and cannon balls are transferred to the docks ready for loading, as are large quantities of gunpowder and artillery pieces. All of the ships are loaded with canister shot, grapeshot, shrapnel shot, spider shot and heated shot. The iron clads are completed and given a huge armoury of shells and incendaries. All of the naval ports in France are cordoned off against outsiders and curfews are put in place on the residents of these places. 20,000 more troops are recruited. The army now has a strength of 400,000 active troops. The government begins to patrol the acess channel of the Mediteranian and imposes moderate taxes on all merchant vessels passing through. This money will be used to fund the ever-growing armed forces. An order is placed for 5 more Protector class destroyers. The famous maritime designer Brutus_de_Villeroi is recruited (before he designs the first properly armed military submarine OTL) and begins designing a new kind of ship called the submarine.

IFTB: Annoyed at France's feeble attempt to match the Naval Strength of the Mighty IFTB Navy, the Council (people in charge) comission a new class of ship, the Battle Cruiser. As fast as a destroyer and with as much firepower as a Battleship, they should be Lords of the sea, but the armour is either too weak, or to heavy, research begins on finding new materials to make armour out of. A company begins to experiment with Titanium. Industrial spies report of a new French idea, the 'submarine' and the IFTB's Naval Command is aflame with ideas. SECRET: They offer the designer twice the pay the French are giving him, and at the dead of night he flees to the IFTB embassy and is smuggled to Brittanica, along with all the designs he made for the French. He begins to work in a secret IFTB lab, and he is kept under constant guard, as the IFTB do not want the French to get him back.

France: The French navy ship almost 200,000 troops to French Indonesia (which had a population of 19,000,000 at the time) as well as artillery, horses, munitions and arms. French Indonesia begins to recruit soldiers for its own army and is promised that it can become half-independant if it recruits over 2,500,000 able men. Although the enlisting is not compulsery, most men join up if they are allowed. This means that 2,000,000 men join up in French Indonesia (this is an accurate number according to expert historians and mathmaticians that I know and have asked- actually they said 5,000,000+ for mass conscription but mass conscription is not what is happening). They are equipped with as many Lebel rifles as can be made but since not everyone can be equipped as such about 300,000 of them are only equipped with swords and 500,000 are only equipped with old muskets that have not yet been scrapped due to administrational problems when Napolean died. France builds 120 new gunships which are basically long boats which can either be sailed or rowed with a small cannon at the front. They are about 12 meters long and have a crew of 10 including the guncrew. 200 Protector class destroyers are ordered which will eventually replace all of the Vengeance Class. A design for a submarine called the IFNS Romanus is started and a new class type is built upon: the Attack Cruiser. These will be huge, fast battle ships with a very high firepower. They will be in two types: Mark 1, the troop carrying version and Mark 2, the main warfare version. Their armour will be made of Titanium Rockwell 40. 300 are planned but only 3 are built this year. France succesfully invades Micronesia (this is actually a country) with 50,000 of the French troops stationed in French Indonesia which has a non-existant military and adds it to French Indonesia. To do this the French Navy bombards the coast and during the night landings are made on all of the islands. A naval base is constructed there. Do I need an Algorithm as France are guaranteed to win. We also start to invest in our cavalry and artillery.Minor invests in new Zeus Classes.The boat consists of a reinforced metal frame with a wooden hull and exterior. The boats are decked out with 90 cannons and has a crew of 250 men and a marine group of 20.The boats are to be named Hercules and Athena.The navy also has invested in 5 new Olympus class ships which are made with a wooden frame but in some areas metal plated. The boats are only 80 foot long and 10 foot wide but they are host to a unit of 20 commandos and a crew of 10 excluding a cook and captain. The vessel has 20 cannons 10 on each side. The boats are fast in moderate wind but ultra-fast in strong wind. The vessels are to be named the names of 5 deadly Greek monsters and beasts.General Annasis has formed a new elite commando force which specialise in sea warfare. The Minor army are now investing in a new artillery force which will be call Blitzfire meaning lightning fire in German and in the new Greek/Latin language (Minorish). A peace treaty is offered to Iberia (see below). 10 new Mark 2 Attack Cruisers are completed to replenish the losses in Micronesia. A massive recruitment plan sarts to repenish the French army of their losses of about 250,000 men. In five years time the French military is expected to be back at full strength. They have already recruited 20,000 men. 5 more Protector Class destroyers are built. France begins to design it's own submarines. Secret: Unmarked privateers are sent to prey on the Iberian Mediterranean shipping lanes and sink all ships heading to and from Iberia in this area. Hundreds of pirate ships and their crews are bribed and encouraged to attack any Iberian ships, merchant or navy. Raiders are hired to attack villages along the Portuguese coast and many of the coastal towns are destroyed by fire during these lightning raids. Assassins and known murderers are hired to kill any Iberian officers or MPs and highway men are paid to waylay any merchant convoys, burn the carts and slaughter the merchants. Spies in Madrid and other major Iberian cities, particularly ports, start fires in remote areas which quickly spread to remote areas. Insurgents start huge forest fires and dig up roads. Soldiers are bribed to bury gunpowder under the walls of any major bases in their area. Armed criminals, dressed as Iberian troops are paid to commit atrocities in public to turn general appeal against Iberia. Captured Iberian ships are used to attack Portuguese towns, turning the population against their masters. Unmarked fast schooners are sent to harass any Southern Iberian shipping and raiders are commissioned to attack Iberian coastal islands. None of the crimes can be traced back to France; the vessels are unmarked, the only flag they fly is the Iberian one and the mercenaries don't even know who is hiring them or where from. The criminals commit suicide before getting caught and most of the time they don't even speak French. French spies deliver the convoy plans to the pirates so that they can tell where all of the merchants are going. Because of these problems, none of the Iberian merchants are making any profit as they're ships are sunk at sea. The foreign merchants stop trading with Iberia because of the risks. Slowly but surely the Iberians will begin to starve.
France Diplomacy: To Iberia: You will pay 1/5 of all damages caused. We will pay the rest. We will withdraw all of our troops and stop shelling your towns if you release your hold on newly captured French lands like Sumatra
Iberia: We will agree to these terms, but we keep Timor and the Andamans.
It will take 5 years for you to get back to powerful, and Indonesia sure as hell won't be back to full strength in two years, also your losses were almost a quarter of a million men.
'IFTB: The IFTB is distressed that they miscalculated Thule's and Eire's reaction to the misguided gift of semi-autonomy, and it returns to control of them. Another 5 submarines are completed, and 10 Battle Cruisers. IFTB shuts the Gibraltar border with Iberia, and after a notable increase of raiders in the area, they begin to send a Battle Cruiser with every IFTB supply shipment to Gibraltar. SECRET: The IFTB does the same as the French with regards to the Iberians, but they have ships that look portuguese preying on Spanish Cities/Towns/Villages. This leads to both regions accusing each other of piracy against each other. IFTB troops are moved to Gibraltar, and just await the command to attack, if the need arises. NOT SECRET: IFTB sends ships to Melanasian ports, in accordance with the Treaty. These ships are ttoops ships, massing for the invasion of an undisclosed nation (not in Oceania) We offer to buy a 1000 square mile tract of land in Australia from the Government.

Mod Event: Due to the fascist influence and large immigration from Indonesia and Micronesia hate crimes are committed against Micronesians and Indonesians in Melanesia. In Iberia the super power begins crackign down on crime, and piracy, and the government manages to end all pirate raids on coastal towns and most pirates, and highwaymen reduce signivicantly in numbers, while spies in Iberian uniforms are caught and executed under the slightest suspicion, but still remain for the most part. Adal and Ethiopia go to war in attempt to unify the Horn of Africa once more, and the Kingdom of God declares war on both in attempt to retake their former colonies. France hits a defecit (-1 economy) due to mass military spending and paying of bandits/pirates.
Empire of Japan: Japan builds up its military industrialisation continues, and infrastructure is improved. Sapporo is established in Hokkaido as a town.
Melanesia: Begins to pass laws to reduce hate crimes, and claims that Indonesians, Polynesians, Micronesians, and Melanesians are all Oceanic and so it should not matter. Military continues to increase to 130k soldiers and 65 battleships. First Melanesian gattling guns are made, and research begins to go into submarines.
East Indonesia: Trans-Borneo Railroad is completed, and begins the Trans-Sulawesi railraod that reaches 25% competion.

France: Sends a fleet to double cross the pirates and steal the paid gold back. Taxes are raised but not enough for any public concern. SECRET: Many old naval ships are decommisioned, repainted and have their flags and any other identification such as names ripped off. They are renamed as privateers and given free to the privateers in exchange to 43% of annual profits. Every ship is taken within a month. 2 fast Protector Class destroyers are released into American shipping lanes to prey on wary ships. None of the crew of the unfortunate ships are left alive so no news of hostile ships is circulated in the area. They are just put down by American port authorities as 'lost at sea, presumably sunk with all hands by freak weather'. Nobody notices that the ships, with everything (ropes, sails and all except the mast and the planking) stripped from them, end up in French shipyards under different names and are given to privateers (same condition as above). 5 more Mark 2 Attack Cruisers arrive, along with 5 Protector Class destroyers. The new-found ship building industry becomes world famous and starts making France rich as more and more merchants pour into France to buy the world-class ships. More and more immagrants turn to it as a source of work and soon it is one of the biggest industries in France. The ships are some of the finest made in Europe and soon many of the world's navy's are buying them. Because they are also accurately priced they become the international merchant's favourite ships. Many French companies start cruise holidays across the Mediteraniean and even more tourists flood into France. The pay for the French army goes slightly up, enough to make a difference to the soldier being paid, but not enough for it to matter to France's recovering economy. Hundreds more flock to join the Imperial Republican Army from all across Europe. An increase of German and African men being recruited is plain to see. France welcomes the immagrants with open arms. French Indonesia's tourist income is boosted after European advertising campaigns for it as a holiday destination spread across the world. Almost 40% of the Oceanic trade industry are now using it as a base due to its relatively low taxes. Because so many are paying these taxes, the government doesn't lose money but instead finds an increase in profits by 20% in that part of the world. France stops paying the Iberian criminals. SECRET:The French garrison at Irongate (the pass into Iberia) is upped to 2,000 men. Cannons are positioned facing into the pass. The pass can not be climbed into as it is surrounded by sheer rock and ice and as such is unclimable. Garrison buildings are hollowed into the rockface to accomodate up to 5,000 men. Further barracks are built at the French entrance to the pass. In total these barracks can hold up to 60,000 men and munitions as well as a huge amount of artillery weapons and cavalry horses. It is estimated that France will recover in 4 years. Secret 3: A French spy is sent to America and offers a deal to engineer Horace Lawson Hunley. He immediately comes and works for France to design submarines. As the best under-water submersible designer in the world between 1860-1880 OTL he rises to the challenge. He is so dedicated to his work, not money that no amount of money will sway him from working for the French once he starts. He starts work immediately in a high-security top secret location where no-one can get to him. His plans are locked away in hidden locations. His whereabouts and the plan's locations are known only to Hunley (the plans) and Major-General Bessington Bonaparte-Wilhelm, the head of the new French Secret Service (Hunley's location). Hunley's 30 bodyguards and the location's guards where blindfolded during the journey to get there as was Hunley, and the drivers who took them there where secretly shot. (OTL: his submarine was the first to ever sink a hostile ship). Julius Hermann Kröhl was also sneaked across the Atlantic at the same time to the same location where the two pioneers work together with the same studious principles as above.

Mino would never do that for extremely obvious reasons.
Mino: Secret: Does the same as the IFTB to Iberia. Begins a joint operation with France to fortify a secret pass through the Pyrenees Mountains. A network of tunnels is built to keep the border troops undercover and battlements are built on either side of the pass so that gunmen can fire down. Cannons are placed at the Iberian side of the tunnel in hidden locations. Heavy metal gates are placed at either end which can withstand up to 6 cannons for 3 hours. They are also placed at 3 strategic positions along the pass between strong stone towers. The Minoan garrison there is 1,000 men.
France Diplomacy:Sells the ships to Mino for extortionate prices due to the current financial crisis. Also agrees to become Mino's supplier. These commisions boost the French shipbuilding industry hugely. The time it will take for France to recover is greatly shortened, if not in months then in years. The new estimate of recovery time is 3.5 years.
IFTB: We will sell you the 3 ships, at around 125% of the cost of construction, and we offer to supply Mino with ships, because, to put it bluntly, France's shipbuilding industry is inferior, and you seem to be just giving them everything, which is so implausable. Also they are in an economic hole so where will they get the resources? They can't get them for free. That isn't how the world works. Also, the ships I am selling you are not dependent on you sayimng yes by the way. We also have the best shipbuilding industry in the world. We will also have submarines in a year.

Anyway, we are allies with France and, unlike some, wish to help their fellow nations and boost their economy. It could certainly help us in the future. What have you done to help them, except invade? Nothing. You could argue they haven't done anything for you. But they are way not as powerful and suffering a financial crisis so how could they. If I were you I'd put a lot more money into starting a war between Iberia and Portugal. It would certainly be useful. On a different note, you say that France's shipbuilding is inferior. Has anyone ever said that? No! Maybe it was true OTL but this isn't OTL and you are not the one who spent most of a turn building up the shipbuilding industry.

The war in America is coming to a close rapidly.Vancouver city is burned to the ground by Atarashi Hokkaido but the Vancouverans manage to keep enemy soldiers of the island. Zululand continues to modernize a't a frightening speed' and adopts Roman characters for their language, but still tries to keep themselves isolated from Europe, more specifically the IFTB.
