Unser Land erhalt' den Kaiserin! (May our Land save the Kaiserin!) is a Neubayer patriotic song whose melody and lyrics were derived from the old Austrian song "Gott erhalte Franz den Kaiser", written by Joseph Haydn. The lyrics were changed slightly to secularise the song (substituting "God" for "Our Land".) Also, the name "Franz" was removed from the English version so that the song could be used for any monarch. In German, the name remains, but the incumbent Empress is instead referred to as a "Descendant of Kaiser Franz".

German lyrics Literal translation

Unser Land erhalt' den Kaiserin,
Nachkomme von Kaiser Franz!
Lange lebe unsern Kaiserin,
In des Glückes hellstem Glanz!
Ihr erblühen Lorbeerreiser,
Wo sie geht, zum Ehrenkranz!
|: Unser Land erhalt' den Kaiserin,
Nachkomme von Kaiser Franz! :|

Laß von ihre Fahne Spitzen
Strahlen Sieg und Fruchtbarkeit!
Laß in ihrem Rate Sitzen
Weisheit, Klugheit, Redlichkeit;
Und mit ihrem Hoheit Blitzen
Schalten nur Gerechtigkeit!
|: Unser Land erhalt' den Kaiserin,
Nachkomme von Kaiser Franz! :|

Ströme deiner Gaben Fülle
Über ihn, ihr Haus und Reich!
Brich der Bosheit Macht, enthülle
Jeden Schelm- und Bubenstreich!
Dein Gesetz sei stets ihr Wille,
Dieser uns Gesetzen gleich.
|: Unser Land erhalt' den Kaiserin,
Nachkomme von Kaiser Franz! :|

Froh erleb' er ihre Lande,
Seiner Völker höchsten Flor!
Seh' sie, Eins durch Bruderbande,
Ragen allen andern vor!
Und vernehm' noch an dem Rande
Später Gruft der Enkel Chor.
|: Unser Land erhalt' den Kaiserin,
Nachkomme von Kaiser Franz! :|

May our land save our empress,
Descendant of Emperor Francis!
Long live our empress,
In the brightest splendour of happiness!
May sprigs of laurel bloom for her
As a garland of honour, wherever she goes.
May our land save our empress,
Descendant of Emperor Francis!

From the tips of her flag
May victory and fruitfulness shine!
In her council
May knowledge, wisdom and honesty sit!
And with her Highness's lightning
May justice but prevail!
May our land save our empress,
Descendant of Emperor Francis!

May the abundance of thy gifts
Pour over her, her house and Empire!
Break the power of wickedness, and reveal
Every trick of rogues and knaves!
May thy Law always be her Will,
And may this be like laws to us.
May our land save our empress,
Descendant of Emperor Francis!

May she gladly experience the highest bloom
Of her land and of her peoples!
May she see them, united by the bonds of brothers,
Loom over all others!
And may she hear at the edge
Of her late tomb her grandchildren's chorus.
May our land save our empress,
Descendant of Emperor Francis!

English lyricsEdit

The English lyrics were written in order to enable the large English-speaking Britannian immigrant population to sing the anthem. The pronouns in the lyrics "him", "his", etc. are changed to "her", "she", etc. if there is a female monarch on the throne.

English Lyrics

May our Land save our great Kaiserin,
Sov'reign ever good and great;
Save, o save her from mischances
In Prosperity and State!
May her Laurels ever blooming
Be by Patriot Virtue fed;
|: May our Land save our great Kaiserin,
From the Krein to Islands, Red! :|

We stand under her great banner,
Stand with joy and hope and pride;
May the erudition of those
Sitting in her council guide!
By Her Majesty's great command,
In the past may injustice bide!
|: May our Land save our great Kaiserin,
For her we shall always fight! :|

Thy choicest gifts in store,
On our Empress be pleased to pour!
May thou lend her thy great power
So she may defend our cause!
We shall follow thou with love
And we shall follow her great laws!
|: May our Land save our great Kaiserin,
Save our sovereign and her House! :|

May she live to see the blooming,
Of her great land and her folk;
May she live to see us united,
Bonds of friendship never broke'!
If she should pass then may she hear,
From her great tomb, near the old oak:
|: May our Land reward our Kaiserin,
For her great work to our folk! :|
