The country was formed as a successor state of the falling European Union in 2037. During the four decades of its existence, NEC maintained the European values and followed the path that the former union stepped at, resulting in the complete political integration of its states in 2051. In spite of the series of environmental, political and economical crises the integration went trough, NEC remained as one of the most stable democracies in the world.

General overview[]

Europa

Sattelite map of Europe

The Northern European Community lies on the continent of Europe, which is part of the super continent Eurasia. It is climatically diverse, the most important factors that influence its weather are the large distance from the Equator - resulting in a generally colder weather (especially in the Scandinavian states and Iceland) -, the proximity of the Atlantic and the warm Gulf stream.

The territory of the NEC can be divided into six regions:

  • The British Isles
  • The Netherlands
  • Scandinavia
  • Finland
  • Iceland

Effects of the climate change[]

The rise of the sea levels resulted in floods mostly in the Netherlands and Southern England. Also, the ecology of the northern territories were damaged by the general warming. The water of the seas got warmer too, making certain species of fish dwelling in those waters to go further north.

Politics[]

Government and legislation[]

Parliament

Senate of the North European Community

The legislative organisation is the Senate. It is comprised of 300 representatives who are directly elected for four years. The representatives in the Senate may form parties. By 2082, the most important parties are the Liberal party, the Pan-European party, the Conservative party and the Green party. Communists, nationalists and Muslim radicals form smaller groups.

The largest party of the newly elected Senate may choose the prime minister and his/her government. The Assembly of National Leaders (ANL; the council of the head of states of the federal states) then decide whether they accept the candidate or not.
